Hebrews 10 · a question people ask
"Let’s consider how to provoke one another to love and good works" (10:24). How, by the letter's own words?
The sentence runs straight on: "not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching" (10:25). Behind provoke is a Greek noun the New Testament has only twice (tap provoke). These notes say no more of "some" or of "the Day" (10:25) than the verse does, and apply it to no church's gatherings today.
