Hebrews 10 · a question people ask
"you endured a great struggle with sufferings" (10:32). What sufferings does the letter mean?
The letter goes on, "partly, being exposed to both reproaches and oppressions, and partly, becoming partakers with those who were treated so" (10:33), and speaks of "the plundering of your possessions" (10:34). These notes say no more of these sufferings than the verses do, place them nowhere, give them no date, and apply them to no one today.
The verses
“But remember the former days, in which, after you were enlightened, you endured a great struggle with sufferings: partly, being exposed to both reproaches and oppressions, and partly, becoming partakers with those who were treated so. For you both had compassion on me in my chains and joyfully accepted the plundering of your possessions, knowing that you have for yourselves a better possession and an enduring one in the heavens.”
