Hebrews 10 Bible study: Let’s draw near
Hebrews has the Greek noun behind offering five times, all in this chapter, among them "the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all" (10:10). And later come three calls, verse after verse: "let’s draw near" (10:22), "let’s hold fast" (10:23), "Let’s consider" (10:24).

What's really going on
A yearly reminder
The chapter opens: "For the law, having a shadow of the good to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect those who draw near. Or else wouldn’t they have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins? But in those sacrifices there is a yearly reminder of sins. For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins." (10:1-4). The verses go step by step, joined by For, Or else, But and For. These notes explain 10:1-4 no further than their words.
Where the Old Testament leads here
Through the veil
Exodus 26:31leads toHebrews 10:19-20
The veil kept the most holy place shut off: "The veil shall separate the holy place from the most holy for you" (26:33). Hebrews makes the link itself: "Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh" (Hebrews 10:19-20). Where the veil shut the way in, Hebrews speaks of boldness to enter.

The Greek word behind it
προσφοράprosphorasay pros-for-AH
Strong's: "presentation". "through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all" (10:10): behind offering is this noun, as it is in "You didn’t desire sacrifice and offering" (10:5) and "For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are being sanctified" (10:14). Hebrews has it five times, and all five are in this chapter (counted in RP2018, and in all eight editions TAGNT compares); one of them is behind offerings in 10:8. The New Testament has it nine times. Favor's Hebrews 8 studies the verb behind offer.
