Galatians 3 · a question people ask

"The righteous will live by faith" (3:11). Where are these words written?

In the text

The chapter doesn't say. It gives the words after for, and names no passage for them (3:11). Habakkuk has close words, worded differently in the WEB: "but the righteous will live by his faith" (Habakkuk 2:4). Galatians doesn't name Habakkuk, and these notes draw no line from Habakkuk to this chapter and say no more of the words than 3:11 says.

The verses

“Now that no man is justified by the law before God is evident, for, “The righteous will live by faith.””
Galatians 3:11 · World English Bible
“Behold, his soul is puffed up. It is not upright in him, but the righteous will live by his faith.”

Galatians 3: The blessing of Abraham

Galatians 3 says of the promises to Abraham, "He doesn’t say, “To descendants”, as of many, but as of one, “To your offspring”, which is Christ" (3:16), and ends, "If you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring and heirs according to promise." (3:29). And Galatians, by name, stands in the whole WEB only in "Foolish Galatians" (3:1).
