Revelation 22 Bible study: A river of water of life
The chapter opens with "a river of water of life, clear as crystal" (22:1), and near its close it calls, "He who desires, let him take the water of life freely." (22:17) Its last verse is a blessing: "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with all the saints. Amen." (22:21)

What's really going on
A river of water of life
John says, "He showed me a river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb," (22:1) "in the middle of its street. On this side of the river and on that was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruits, yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations." (22:2) (tap river, water, life, clear and crystal). These two verses don't name the He who shows John the river; 22:8 says who had shown him these things. The chapter goes on: "There will be no curse any more. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will serve him." (22:3) "They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads." (22:4) "There will be no night, and they need no lamp light or sun light; for the Lord God will illuminate them. They will reign forever and ever." (22:5) (tap night, lamp and illuminate). Lines from Favor's Genesis 2 and Genesis 3 land on 22:2 and 22:3, and Lines that land here names them. Here, these notes give these five verses as the WEB has them. They say no more of the river, the street, the tree, its fruits and its leaves, the nations, the curse, the throne, the face or the name on the foreheads than the verses' own words, and they set no other verse beside them. Beyond the names the chapter itself gives, these notes identify no one and nothing in this chapter with any person, people, power, nation, church or event, give no time for anything in it, and apply none of it to anyone, then or now.

The tree of life again
Genesis 2:9leads toRevelation 22:2
The tree of life stands in the middle of the garden. Jesus promises, "To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of my God", and on the Bible's last pages it stands in God's city, its leaves "for the healing of the nations".
