Revelation 22 · a question people ask
"The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!”" (22:17). Who says “Come!” in this verse?
Here is the verse as the WEB has it: "The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” He who hears, let him say, “Come!” He who is thirsty, let him come. He who desires, let him take the water of life freely." (22:17) Come stands in it three times. First, "The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!”" (22:17). Then the one who hears is to say it too: "He who hears, let him say, “Come!”" (22:17). The third time it is not something to say but something to do: "He who is thirsty, let him come." (22:17) So the verse itself gives those who say it: "The Spirit and the bride" (22:17), and then "He who hears" (22:17). These notes say no more of the Spirit or the bride than the verse's own words, and they identify the bride with no one.
