Job 3 · a question people ask

Who is Job talking to?

In the text

The chapter doesn't say. It calls his words an answer: "Job answered" (3:2), and in Hebrew that is the verb of every answered heading in the book. But no one had spoken to him: "no one spoke a word to him" (2:13). In this chapter Job never says you to God or to his friends; he speaks of God, not to him (3:4, 3:23). The first to answer him is Eliphaz: "If someone ventures to talk with you, will you be grieved?" (4:2).

Job 3:4 · World English Bible

From Favor's study of Job 3

Job 3: Let the day perish

Job's last line is made of the words of the rest he pictures in 3:13-17. In Hebrew, 3:26's quiet is 3:13's, its rest is 3:13's and 3:17's, and its trouble is the troubling that ceases in 3:17: "neither do I have rest; but trouble comes" (3:26).
