James 5 · a question people ask
"Be patient therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord." (5:7). What does the chapter say patience looks like?
The verse goes on with a farmer: "Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rain." (5:7). Then the letter says, "You also be patient. Establish your hearts" (5:8), "Don’t grumble, brothers, against one another" (5:9), and "Take, brothers, for an example of suffering and of perseverance, the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord." (5:10).
The verses
“Be patient therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. Don’t grumble, brothers, against one another, so that you won’t be judged. Behold, the judge stands at the door. Take, brothers, for an example of suffering and of perseverance, the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.”
