Hebrews 8 · a question people ask

"I will put my laws into their mind; I will also write them on their heart." (8:10). Are these words anywhere else in the Bible?

In the text

Hebrews names no passage for them; it gives them as the Lord's words ("says the Lord", 8:10). The WEB's Jeremiah 31:31-34 has words like those of 8:8-12, worded differently. Where 8:10 has these words, Jeremiah has, "I will put my law in their inward parts, and I will write it in their heart" (Jeremiah 31:33). Hebrews itself gives them again later, worded another way (10:16). These notes don't say why the wordings differ.

The verses

““For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” says the Lord: “I will put my laws into their mind; I will also write them on their heart. I will be their God, and they will be my people.”

From Favor's study of Hebrews 8

Hebrews 8: Mediator of a better covenant

Hebrews names its main point: "we have such a high priest, who sat down on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens" (8:1). It calls him "the mediator of a better covenant" (8:6), and then gives words that say, "I will put my laws into their mind; I will also write them on their heart" (8:10).
