Acts 8 · a question people ask

"the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away" (8:39). What happened to Philip?

In the text

Acts tells it in these words: "When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, and the eunuch didn’t see him any more, for he went on his way rejoicing." (8:39) (tap caught). "But Philip was found at Azotus. Passing through, he preached the Good News to all the cities until he came to Caesarea." (8:40). The chapter says no more of how than these verses, and these notes don't either.

The verses

“When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, and the eunuch didn’t see him any more, for he went on his way rejoicing. But Philip was found at Azotus. Passing through, he preached the Good News to all the cities until he came to Caesarea.”

From Favor's study of Acts 8

Acts 8: Beginning from this Scripture

Those who were scattered "went around preaching the word" (8:4), and in the Greek this chapter has that verb of good news five times, as when Philip, "beginning from this Scripture, preached to him about Jesus" (8:35). And Simon, who had amazed Samaria (8:9), "was amazed" himself (8:13): the same verb.
