Acts 27 · a question people ask

Paul had warned them (27:10). Why did they sail on from Fair Havens?

In the text

The chapter gives these words, and no more. "But the centurion gave more heed to the master and to the owner of the ship than to those things which were spoken by Paul." (27:11). "Because the haven was not suitable to winter in, the majority advised going to sea from there, if by any means they could reach Phoenix and winter there, which is a port of Crete, looking southwest and northwest." (27:12). "When the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, they weighed anchor and sailed along Crete, close to shore." (27:13). The chapter doesn't say what the master or the owner said, and these notes add nothing to it.

Acts 27: All those who sail with you

Paul told them, "there will be no loss of life among you" (27:22), and gave his reason in the words that follow: "For there stood by me this night an angel" (27:23). One Greek verb is behind stood by there and stand before in "You must stand before Caesar." (27:24).
