Acts 27 · a question people ask
"Sirs, I perceive that the voyage will be with injury and much loss" (27:10). How did Paul come to say this?
The verse says only "I perceive". It doesn't say how Paul came to it, and the chapter doesn't say either. Later Paul tells of an angel who "stood by me this night" (27:23), and of the words the angel spoke (27:24); the chapter doesn't say that Paul's words in 27:10 came that way. These notes don't say how he came to them.
The verses
“When much time had passed and the voyage was now dangerous because the Fast had now already gone by, Paul admonished them and said to them, “Sirs, I perceive that the voyage will be with injury and much loss, not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives.””
“For there stood by me this night an angel, belonging to the God whose I am and whom I serve, saying, ‘Don’t be afraid, Paul. You must stand before Caesar. Behold, God has granted you all those who sail with you.’”
