2 Peter 1 · a question people ask
"in your faith supply moral excellence" (1:5). What does supply mean here?
Behind supply is a Greek verb that Strong's gives as "to furnish besides, i.e. fully supply, (figuratively) aid or contribute" (tap supply). The verse opens, "Yes, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence" (1:5), and in the WEB the list goes on, each word joined to the next with in: "and in moral excellence, knowledge;" (1:5) "and in knowledge, self-control; and in self-control, perseverance; and in perseverance, godliness;" (1:6) "and in godliness, brotherly affection; and in brotherly affection, love." (1:7). These notes say no more of the verb than the lexicon does, and make no ladder of the list beyond the WEB's own words.
