"having suffered before and been shamefully treated, as you know, at Philippi" (2:2). What happened there?
The verse doesn't say, beyond its own words. It says the readers knew ("as you know", 2:2), and it goes on, "we grew bold in our God to tell you the Good News of God in much conflict." (2:2). These notes add nothing to the verse, set no other passage beside it, and apply it to no one today.
