1 Corinthians 11 · a question people ask

"hold firm the traditions, even as I delivered them to you" (11:2). What were the traditions?

In the text

The chapter doesn't list them. It praises the readers that they "remember me in all things, and hold firm the traditions, even as I delivered them to you" (11:2), and it says no more of what the traditions were. These notes don't fill them in.

The verses

“Now I praise you, brothers, that you remember me in all things, and hold firm the traditions, even as I delivered them to you.”

1 Corinthians 11: Received from the Lord

The chapter that tells of the Lord Jesus, the bread and the cup (11:23-25) also says of their coming together, "each one takes his own supper first" (11:21), and then, "when you come together to eat, wait for one another" (11:33).

In Favor, questions like this come up right where they arise as you read, with the Hebrew and Greek behind the words and how the chapter leads to Jesus.
