Psalm 21: In your strength
Read Psalm 21:1-13 before you meet.
In a few lines
Psalm 21 begins and ends in the LORD's strength, "The king rejoices in your strength, LORD!" (21:1) and "Be exalted, LORD, in your strength" (21:13): one Hebrew word, oz, and only there. In between, the king never speaks, and everything he has is given. Even his standing is "Through the loving kindness of the Most High" (21:7).
The verse to carry
“Be exalted, LORD, in your strength, so we will sing and praise your power.”
Psalm 21:13
To talk about
1. Psalm 20 prays that someone's heart's desire will be granted (Psalm 20:4), and Psalm 21 praises the LORD for a king who has been given his (21:2). When did you last go back and thank God for something you had asked him for?
2. The psalm gives the reason the king stands: "For the king trusts in the LORD. Through the loving kindness of the Most High, he shall not be moved" (21:7). What helps you stay steady when things around you shake?
3. The psalm is about the king, but it ends, "so we will sing and praise your power" (21:13). How can a prayer answered for someone else become praise for your whole group?
