Luke 7: God has visited his people

Read Luke 7:1-50 before you meet.

In a few lines

The elders call the centurion worthy (7:4), and the words the friends bring say, "I am not worthy" (7:6). The people at Nain say, "A great prophet has arisen among us!" (7:16), and a Pharisee says to himself that if Jesus were a prophet he would know who was touching him (7:39). The next verse begins, "Jesus answered him" (7:40).

The verse to carry

“He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.””

Luke 7:50

To talk about

  1. 1. The words sent to Jesus said, "say the word, and my servant will be healed" (7:7), and Jesus said, "I have not found such great faith, no, not in Israel" (7:9). What do you notice about the faith Jesus marveled at here?

  2. 2. John sent his question to Jesus: "Are you the one who is coming, or should we look for another?" (7:19). When you have an honest question about Jesus, where do you usually take it, and what would it look like to bring it to him?

  3. 3. Jesus asked Simon, "Do you see this woman?" (7:44). Simon had said to himself that she is "a sinner" (7:39). Who is someone you find it hard to see as more than what you know about them, and what would it look like to see them differently this week?
