Luke 15: He was lost and is found

Read Luke 15:1-32 before you meet.

In a few lines

Luke sets Jesus's stories right after the complaint, "This man welcomes sinners" (15:2), and the first two close with joy "over one sinner" (15:7, 15:10). The father goes out to both his sons: he runs to the younger (15:20), and he comes out to the elder (15:28).

The verse to carry

“Even so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner repenting.”

Luke 15:10

To talk about

  1. 1. Luke says the tax collectors and sinners "were coming close to him to hear him" (15:1). What draws people close to Jesus to hear him, and what would help you come close to hear him this week?

  2. 2. The man and the woman each call their friends and neighbors and say, "Rejoice with me" (15:6, 15:9). When has someone else's joy become yours, and who could you rejoice with this week?

  3. 3. The father says to his elder son, "Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours" (15:31). What do these words stir in you, and why?
