Judges 6: The least in my father's house

Read Judges 6:1-40 before you meet.

In a few lines

When Israel cried, the LORD first sent a prophet, whose words end as the angel's did at Bochim: "But you have not listened to my voice" (6:10). Then the LORD's angel called a man hiding his wheat a "mighty man of valor" (6:12), and to "I am the least in my father’s house" (6:15) the LORD answered with the three Hebrew words he said to Moses at the bush: "Surely I will be with you" (6:16).

The verse to carry

“The LORD said to him, “Surely I will be with you, and you shall strike the Midianites as one man.””

Judges 6:16

To talk about

  1. 1. Gideon asked, "If the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us?" (6:13). Have you ever asked God something like that? What did you do with the question?

  2. 2. "My family is the poorest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house" (6:15). The LORD answered, "Surely I will be with you" (6:16). Where do you feel too small for what God may be asking of you?

  3. 3. Gideon's first work was at home, at his father's altar, and he did it by night because he was afraid (6:25-27). What would taking God seriously look like first in your own home or circle, and what makes that hard?
