John 7: If anyone is thirsty

Read John 7:1-53 before you meet.

In a few lines

Every seek, seeks and sought in John 7 is one Greek verb: "the Jews sought to kill him" (7:1), and Jesus says, "You will seek me and won’t find me" (7:34). And John's Gospel itself says what the "rivers of living water" (7:38) are about: "he said this about the Spirit" (7:39).

The verse to carry

“Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!”

John 7:37

To talk about

  1. 1. Jesus cried out, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!" (7:37). What would it look like for you to come to him this week, just as you are?

  2. 2. The officers came back saying, "No man ever spoke like this man!" (7:46). Which words of Jesus have stopped you like that, and why?

  3. 3. "There was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him" (7:12), "Yet no one spoke openly of him" (7:13). Where do you find it hard to speak openly about Jesus, and what would help?
