Job 3: Let the day perish

Read Job 3:1-26 before you meet.

In a few lines

Job's last line is made of the words of the rest he pictures in 3:13-17. In Hebrew, 3:26's quiet is 3:13's, its rest is 3:13's and 3:17's, and its trouble is the troubling that ceases in 3:17: "neither do I have rest; but trouble comes" (3:26).

The verse to carry

“I am not at ease, neither am I quiet, neither do I have rest; but trouble comes.”

Job 3:26

To talk about

  1. 1. Job's friends sat with him seven days without a word (2:13), and then Job said all of this. What makes it hard to let someone say what they really feel without rushing to answer them?

  2. 2. Job says, "For the thing which I fear comes on me" (3:25). When something you feared has actually happened, what helped you, or what do you wish had helped?

  3. 3. Job ends, "neither do I have rest; but trouble comes" (3:26). Where do you tend to look for rest when you don't have any?
