Genesis 28: The gate of heaven
Read Genesis 28:1-22 before you meet.
In a few lines
Isaac sent Jacob away with the blessing of Abraham. On the run, Jacob dreamed of a stairway to heaven with the angels of God ascending and descending, and the LORD promised, "I am with you, and will keep you… I will not leave you." Jacob named the place Bethel, God's house, and Jesus later said the angels would ascend and descend on the Son of Man.
The verse to carry
“Behold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you until I have done that which I have spoken of to you.”
Genesis 28:15
To talk about
1. Jacob met God on the run, in a place he didn't expect. When has God met you somewhere you didn't expect?
2. God made these promises to Jacob right after he deceived his father. What does that tell you about God's promises?
3. Jacob answered God's promises with a vow and a tenth. How do you respond to what God has promised you?
