Genesis 19: Out of Sodom
Read Genesis 19:1-38 before you meet.
In a few lines
Lot took in two angels, and the men of Sodom surrounded his house. When he lingered, the angels took him by the hand, "the LORD being merciful to him", and the Bible's first use of the word for loving kindness is Lot's, speaking of that rescue. The LORD overthrew the cities, Lot's wife looked back, and Lot was sent out because God remembered Abraham.
The verse to carry
“When God destroyed the cities of the plain, God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the middle of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot lived.”
Genesis 19:29
To talk about
1. Lot lingered even while the angels were urging him to go. What makes it hard to leave something behind when God calls you out of it?
2. Abraham had pleaded with the LORD over Sodom (18:23-32). Then "God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out" (19:29). Who do you bring before God, and what does this chapter give you to hope for them?
3. Jesus said, "Remember Lot's wife!" Reading Luke 17:31-33, what do you think he wanted his hearers to remember?
