Exodus 24: The blood of the covenant
Read Exodus 24:1-18 before you meet.
In a few lines
Israel said yes to the LORD's words three times (19:8, 24:3, 24:7), and Moses sprinkled them with "the blood of the covenant" (24:8). In the World English Bible those words appear again only in Hebrews (9:20, 10:29). At supper Jesus took the cup and said, "This is my blood of the new covenant" (Mark 14:24).
The verse to carry
“Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, “Look, this is the blood of the covenant, which the LORD has made with you concerning all these words.””
Exodus 24:8
To talk about
1. Israel promised to do all the LORD's words (24:3), then made a calf while Moses was still on the mountain (32:1-8). Have you promised God more than you could keep? What does Jesus' "new covenant in my blood" (Luke 22:20) mean to you there?
2. The elders "saw God, and ate and drank" (24:11). Jesus gave his disciples the cup at a meal. When has sharing a table with other believers been a place where God felt near to you?
3. The cloud covered the mountain for six days before the LORD called to Moses (24:16), and down below, when the people saw that Moses delayed, they asked Aaron to make them gods (32:1). What helps you keep going when God seems slow?
