2 Chronicles 22: Hidden in God's house

Read 2 Chronicles 22:1-12 before you meet.

In a few lines

2 Chronicles gives two causes for Ahaziah's fall side by side: his counselors, "to his destruction" (22:4), and God (22:7), with two different Hebrew words. And when all the royal offspring were destroyed, one son was stealthily rescued by his father's sister, a priest's wife, and kept "hidden in God’s house six years" (22:12).

The verse to carry

“He was with them hidden in God’s house six years while Athaliah reigned over the land.”

2 Chronicles 22:12

To talk about

  1. 1. Ahaziah's mother was "his counselor in acting wickedly" (22:3), and others counseled him "to his destruction" (22:4). Whose counsel shapes your choices most? How do you tell good counsel from bad?

  2. 2. At Ahaziah's burial, people remembered his grandfather as one "who sought the LORD with all his heart" (22:9). What would you want people to be able to say of you? What would it take to get there?

  3. 3. Jehoshabeath took one child and hid him (22:11), and for six years he was kept "hidden in God’s house" (22:12). Who has quietly looked out for you? Who could you look out for this week?
