Revelation 4 Bible study: A door opened in heaven

The elders sit "with crowns of gold on their heads" (4:4), and when they worship, they "throw their crowns before the throne" (4:10): the crowns on their heads are the crowns they throw.

What's really going on

A door opened in heaven

In the text

The chapter opens: "After these things I looked and saw a door opened in heaven; and the first voice that I heard, like a trumpet speaking with me, was one saying, “Come up here, and I will show you the things which must happen after this.”" (4:1). These notes give 4:1 as the WEB has it, explain it no further than its own words, and set no other verse beside it. Then: "Immediately I was in the Spirit. Behold, there was a throne set in heaven, and one sitting on the throne" (4:2) (tap throne).

The Greek word behind it

θρόνοςthronossay THRON-os

Strong's: "a stately seat", and "by implication, power or (concretely) a potentate". "Behold, there was a throne set in heaven, and one sitting on the throne" (4:2): behind throne is this noun. In the WEB's English, throne stands in seven of this chapter's eleven verses, from 4:2 to 4:10.
