Song of Solomon 3 · a question people ask
The charge of 2:7 comes again in 3:5. Is it the same charge?
Yes. "I adjure you, daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, or by the hinds of the field, that you not stir up, nor awaken love, until it so desires" (2:7). "I adjure you, daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, or by the hinds of the field, that you not stir up nor awaken love, until it so desires" (3:5). In the WEB the two differ by one comma, and in Hebrew they are the same word for word. The charge comes a third time in 8:4, without the roes and the hinds. What the charge says is chapter 2's honest question on 2:7, What is this charge saying?, and these notes don't go over it again. They apply it to no one's life today.
