Romans 3 · a question people ask
"Let’s do evil, that good may come?" (3:8). Was the letter teaching that?
The verse says these words are what some report: "as we are slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say" (3:8) (tap slanderously reported). It doesn't say who they are. It ends, "Those who say so are justly condemned." (3:8). The letter comes back to a question like it later: "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?" (6:1), and answers, "May it never be!" (6:2). These notes say no more of who reported it, or of whom 3:8's last words speak, than the verse says.
The verses
“Why not (as we are slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say), “Let’s do evil, that good may come?” Those who say so are justly condemned.”
“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? May it never be! We who died to sin, how could we live in it any longer?”
