Romans 16 · a question people ask

"notable among the apostles" (16:7). What does that say about Andronicus and Junia?

In the text

The verse reads, "Greet Andronicus and Junia, my relatives and my fellow prisoners, who are notable among the apostles, who were also in Christ before me." (16:7). It calls them "my relatives" and "my fellow prisoners", and says they "were also in Christ before me". Christians read the words notable among the apostles in more than one way. The verse says no more, and these notes don't choose a reading, add nothing to the verse's words, and apply it to no church or person today.

The verses

“Greet Andronicus and Junia, my relatives and my fellow prisoners, who are notable among the apostles, who were also in Christ before me.”

Romans 16: Greet one another

In the Greek, Romans has its verb for greet 21 times, and every one is in its last chapter, beside people it calls beloved, fellow workers, and those who labored much in the Lord. And it opens with one person, Phoebe, who "has been a helper of many, and of my own self" (16:2).
