Romans 14 · a question people ask

"the revelation of the mystery which has been kept secret through long ages" (14:24). What is the mystery?

In the text

The words of praise don't give it another name. They say what is said of it here: it "has been kept secret through long ages" (14:24); it "now is revealed", and "by the Scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the eternal God, is made known for obedience of faith to all the nations" (14:25). And the praise is to "him who is able to establish you according to my Good News and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery" (14:24). These notes say no more of the mystery than these words do, and name no passage of the prophets.

The verses

“Now to him who is able to establish you according to my Good News and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which has been kept secret through long ages, but now is revealed, and by the Scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the eternal God, is made known for obedience of faith to all the nations; to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever! Amen.”

Romans 14: We are the Lord’s

Romans 14 opens with "Now accept one who is weak in faith" (14:1) and says "God has accepted him" (14:3); in the Greek, accept and accepted are one verb, and it comes back in "accept one another, even as Christ also accepted you" (15:7). And the chapter ends in praise "to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ" (14:26).
