Romans 1 · a question people ask
"For in it is revealed God’s righteousness from faith to faith" (1:17). What does that mean?
This chapter says only what the verse says: God's righteousness "is revealed" in the Good News, "from faith to faith", and then it gives Scripture: "As it is written, “But the righteous shall live by faith.”" (1:17). It doesn't explain the words further here. In the WEB's Romans, God's righteousness is named again in 3:5, 3:21, 3:22 and 10:3. These notes leave the words to the letter itself and add no meaning of their own.
The verses
“For I am not ashamed of the Good News of Christ, because it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first, and also for the Greek. For in it is revealed God’s righteousness from faith to faith. As it is written, “But the righteous shall live by faith.””
