Luke 9 · a question people ask

Luke says of Jesus's saying, "It was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it" (9:45). Who concealed it?

In the text

Luke doesn't say. Jesus said, "Let these words sink into your ears, for the Son of Man will be delivered up into the hands of men" (9:44). "But they didn’t understand this saying. It was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying." (9:45). Luke tells it in nearly the same way on the road to Jerusalem, after Jesus says, "On the third day, he will rise again" (18:33): "They understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they didn’t understand the things that were said." (18:34). In neither place does Luke say who concealed it or hid it, and these notes don't say either. He does tell what came later, at the empty tomb: the two men said, "Remember what he told you when he was still in Galilee" (24:6), and "They remembered his words" (24:8).

The verses

““Let these words sink into your ears, for the Son of Man will be delivered up into the hands of men.” But they didn’t understand this saying. It was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.”
Luke 9:44-45 · World English Bible
“He took the twelve aside and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all the things that are written through the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be completed. For he will be delivered up to the Gentiles, will be mocked, treated shamefully, and spit on. They will scourge and kill him. On the third day, he will rise again.” They understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they didn’t understand the things that were said.”
Luke 18:31-34 · World English Bible
“He isn’t here, but is risen. Remember what he told you when he was still in Galilee, saying that the Son of Man must be delivered up into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and the third day rise again?” They remembered his words,”

Luke 9: He set his face

On the mountain, as Jesus prayed, "the appearance of his face was altered" (9:29), and Moses and Elijah spoke of "his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem" (9:31). Then "he intently set his face to go to Jerusalem" (9:51).
