Luke 6 · a question people ask
What is "the second Sabbath after the first" (6:1)?
Luke doesn't explain it, and these notes don't guess. His words are "Now on the second Sabbath after the first, he was going through the grain fields" (6:1). Behind "second Sabbath after the first" the Greek has Sabbath and one other word, and that word is found only here in the New Testament (counted in RP2018, the Byzantine text the WEB translates). Strong's and Thayer both give it as "second-first". What Luke tells is what happened that day (6:1-5), and that the next scene was "on another Sabbath" (6:6).
