Leviticus 7 · a question people ask
What is "the consecration" in the closing list?
The summary names six: "the burnt offering, the meal offering, the sin offering, the trespass offering, the consecration, and the sacrifice of peace offerings" (7:37). Five of them have a heading in Leviticus 6-7 that begins "This is the law of" (6:9, 6:14, 6:25, 7:1, 7:11). The consecration doesn't. Its Hebrew word, millu'im, is the one Exodus uses for "a ram of consecration" (Exodus 29:22), and Leviticus 8 uses it again when Moses carries that out (8:22, 8:33). Leviticus 6 also gives "the offering of Aaron and of his sons, which they shall offer to the LORD in the day when he is anointed" (6:20). The chapter doesn't say which of these 7:37 means.
