Job 2 · a question people ask

Does "didn't sin with his lips" mean Job sinned in his heart?

In the text

The chapter doesn't say, and this study won't guess. After the first losses the book said, "In all this, Job didn’t sin, nor charge God with wrongdoing" (1:22). After the sores and his wife's words it says, "In all this Job didn’t sin with his lips" (2:10) (tap lips). The words with his lips are new in 2:10, and neither verse says anything about Job's heart. The introduction to Job notes that the book doesn't explain how these two verses sit beside the speeches that follow; this chapter quotes them as they stand.

The verses

“In all this, Job didn’t sin, nor charge God with wrongdoing.”
Job 1:22 · World English Bible
“But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this Job didn’t sin with his lips.”

Job 2: Skin for skin

Job's wife asks, "Do you still maintain your integrity?" (2:9): in Hebrew, the same three words the LORD had used of Job, "He still maintains his integrity" (2:3). And the friends' first seven days with Job were silent: "no one spoke a word to him" (2:13).
