"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations" (1:2). Why joy?
The next words give the letter's own reason: "knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance." (1:3). Then: "Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." (1:4). These notes add no other reason, and say no more of the various temptations of 1:2 than the verse does.
