Hebrews 9 · a question people ask
"Inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once, and after this, judgment" (9:27). Why does the letter say this here?
The verse is the first half of a sentence, and the next verse finishes it: "so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him" (9:28). The letter's own Inasmuch as and so set the two side by side, and once stands in both (tap once). These notes say no more of 9:27 than its words, and apply it to no one's death.
