Galatians 2 · a question people ask
"I said to Peter before them all" (2:14). Where do the words said to Peter end?
By the WEB's quotation marks, at the end of the chapter. The WEB opens a quotation in 2:14, at "If you, being a Jew, live as the Gentiles do" (2:14), and closes it only after "then Christ died for nothing!" (2:21). 2:15 begins with a fresh opening mark, and no closing mark ends 2:14: that is the WEB's way of starting a new paragraph inside the same quotation, not a new speaker. So by the WEB's marks, all the words from 2:14 to 2:21 are what the letter's I said to Peter before them all. These notes follow the WEB's marks, and say nothing about how other Bibles mark them.
