Exodus 38 · a question people ask
Who were the women who ministered at the door of the Tent of Meeting?
The chapter doesn't name them or say what their work was. It says only that the basin was made "out of the mirrors of the ministering women who ministered at the door of the Tent of Meeting" (38:8). The verb, tsava, is used for the Levites' work: "all who enter in to wait on the service, to do the work in the Tent of Meeting" (Numbers 4:23; also 8:24). The only other place it is used of women is in Eli's day, when Eli heard what his sons did with "the women who served at the door of the Tent of Meeting" (1 Samuel 2:22). There was already a tent by that name before the tabernacle was raised: "Moses used to take the tent and pitch it outside the camp", and he called it the Tent of Meeting (33:7). Exodus 38:8 doesn't say which tent it means.
