Ecclesiastes 6 · a question people ask
Who is "him who is mightier than he" (6:10)?
The verse doesn't say. "Whatever has been, its name was given long ago; and it is known what man is; neither can he contend with him who is mightier than he" (6:10). Mightier is taqqif, a word the Hebrew Bible has only here (tap mightier). Contend is din, a verb the Hebrew Bible uses elsewhere of judging (tap contend); Brown-Driver-Briggs gives this verse's line as "he cannot contend with one mightier than he". The verse names no one, and these notes don't say who is meant.
