Acts 4 · a question people ask

"There is salvation in no one else" (4:12). What question was Peter answering?

In the text

The rulers, elders and scribes had stood Peter and John in the middle of them and asked, "By what power, or in what name, have you done this?" (4:7). Peter, "filled with the Holy Spirit" (4:8), speaks of "a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed" (4:9), and answers the question of the name: "in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, this man stands here before you whole in him" (4:10). After the words about the stone (4:11), he says, "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" (4:12). So the council asked in what name, and Peter's answer ends with no other name. Peter spoke these words to "You rulers of the people and elders of Israel" (4:8), and said, "may it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel" (4:10). These notes quote 4:12 as he said it, and apply it to no people, faith or group today beyond its own words.

Acts 4: With all boldness

Boldness is one Greek word three times in Acts 4: the council sees it in two unlearned men who "had been with Jesus" (4:13), the prayer asks for it (4:29), and "they spoke the word of God with boldness" (4:31). The WEB's Acts has "with all boldness" once more, in the book's very last verse (28:31).
