Acts 17 · a question people ask
"saying that there is another king, Jesus!" (17:7). Is that what Paul had said?
Those are the words of those who dragged Jason and certain brothers before the rulers of the city: "These who have turned the world upside down have come here also, whom Jason has received. These all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus!" (17:6-7). The chapter gives no reply to the charge and doesn't say whether it was true. It says, "The multitude and the rulers of the city were troubled when they heard these things. When they had taken security from Jason and the rest, they let them go." (17:8-9). What the chapter reports Paul saying at Thessalonica is 17:3. These notes add nothing to either, and apply the accusers' words to no one today.
