2 Chronicles 9 · a question people ask

Did the queen of Sheba come to believe in the LORD?

In the text

The chapter gives her words: "Blessed be the LORD your God, who delighted in you and set you on his throne to be king for the LORD your God" (9:8). It doesn't say what she believed beyond them, and it doesn't tell of her offering at the LORD's house or staying: "So she turned and went to her own land, she and her servants" (9:12). Jesus, who calls her "The Queen of the South" and doesn't use the name Sheba, said she "will rise up in the judgment with this generation and will condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon" (Matthew 12:42). The reason he gives is that she came to hear. The honest question in 1 Kings 10 asks the same, and these notes don't go beyond what the verses say.

The verses

“Blessed be the LORD your God, who delighted in you and set you on his throne to be king for the LORD your God, because your God loved Israel, to establish them forever. Therefore he made you king over them, to do justice and righteousness.””
2 Chronicles 9:8 · World English Bible
“King Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatever she asked, more than that which she had brought to the king. So she turned and went to her own land, she and her servants.”
2 Chronicles 9:12 · World English Bible
“The Queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with this generation and will condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, someone greater than Solomon is here.”
Matthew 12:42 · World English Bible

From Favor's study of 2 Chronicles 9

2 Chronicles 9: On his throne

Where 1 Kings has the queen bless the LORD for setting Solomon "on the throne of Israel" (1 Kings 10:9), 2 Chronicles has "set you on his throne to be king for the LORD your God" (9:8): the throne is the LORD's. And 2 Chronicles closes Solomon's reign with its riches, his records and his death, without telling of his heart turning (1 Kings 11:4).
