2 Chronicles 10 · a question people ask

Was Hadoram the Adoram of David's day?

In the text

The Bible doesn't say. 2 Chronicles names him "Hadoram, who was over the men subject to forced labor" (10:18), and 1 Kings tells the same verse with "Adoram, who was over the men subject to forced labor" (1 Kings 12:18). In David's day, "Adoram was over the men subject to forced labor" (2 Samuel 20:24), and in Solomon's, "Adoniram the son of Abda was over the men subject to forced labor" (1 Kings 4:6). The text doesn't say whether these names belong to one man or to more, and these notes don't join them.

The verses

2 Chronicles 10: A heavier yoke

2 Chronicles tells Shechem almost word for word as 1 Kings, but not quite. Its old men say, "If you are kind to these people, please them, and speak good words to them" (10:7), where 1 Kings has "If you will be a servant to this people today" (1 Kings 12:7). And the word by Ahijah that the LORD established (10:15) is one 2 Chronicles never tells.
