"having been the wife of one man" (5:9). What do these words mean?
Here are the letter's own words: "Let no one be enrolled as a widow under sixty years old, having been the wife of one man," (5:9). The letter says no more about what they mean, and these notes don't either. They apply the words to no one's marriage, and to no widow or church, today.
