1 Kings 3 · a question people ask
Was Solomon wrong to marry Pharaoh's daughter?
Chapter 3 tells of the marriage and passes no judgment on it: "Solomon made a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt. He took Pharaoh’s daughter and brought her into David’s city" (3:1). Later chapters come back to her. Solomon made "a house for Pharaoh’s daughter (whom Solomon had taken as wife)" (7:8), Pharaoh gave Gezer "for a wedding gift to his daughter, Solomon’s wife" (9:16), and "Pharaoh’s daughter came up out of David’s city to her house which Solomon had built for her" (9:24). In chapter 11, "King Solomon loved many foreign women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh" (11:1), and "His wives turned his heart away" (11:3). Chapter 3 gives no verdict on this marriage, and this answer doesn't add one.
