1 Kings 10 · a question people ask
Did the queen of Sheba come to believe in the LORD?
The chapter gives her words: "Blessed is the LORD your God, who delighted in you, to set you on the throne of Israel" (10:9). It doesn't say what she believed beyond them, and it doesn't tell of her offering at the LORD's house or staying: "So she turned and went to her own land, she and her servants" (10:13). Hiram king of Tyre also said, "Blessed is the LORD today" (5:7). Jesus, who calls her "The Queen of the South" and doesn't use the name Sheba, said she "will rise up in the judgment with this generation and will condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon" (Matthew 12:42). The reason he gives is that she came to hear. These notes don't go beyond what the verses say.
The verses
“Blessed is the LORD your God, who delighted in you, to set you on the throne of Israel. Because the LORD loved Israel forever, therefore he made you king, to do justice and righteousness.””
“King Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatever she asked, in addition to that which Solomon gave her of his royal bounty. So she turned and went to her own land, she and her servants.”
“When Hiram heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced greatly, and said, “Blessed is the LORD today, who has given to David a wise son to rule over this great people.””
“The Queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with this generation and will condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, someone greater than Solomon is here.”
