1 Corinthians 5 · a question people ask
"Purge out the old yeast, that you may be a new lump, even as you are unleavened." (5:7). If they are unleavened already, why purge out the old yeast?
The verse says both, side by side: "Purge out the old yeast", and "even as you are unleavened" (5:7). It has just asked, "Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole lump?" (5:6). The chapter doesn't say more of how the two go together than these words, and these notes don't either.
The verses
“Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole lump? Purge out the old yeast, that you may be a new lump, even as you are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, has been sacrificed in our place.”
