1 Chronicles 3 · a question people ask
Is "Bathshua the daughter of Ammiel" Bathsheba?
The chapter gives four sons "by Bathshua the daughter of Ammiel" (3:5), and Solomon is one of them. In 2 Samuel, Solomon's mother is Bathsheba: "She bore a son, and he called his name Solomon" (2 Samuel 12:24), and she is "Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam" (2 Samuel 11:3). 1 Kings calls her "Bathsheba the mother of Solomon" (1 Kings 1:11). The books give the name of Solomon's mother, and of her father, differently (tap Bathshua). 2 Samuel lists Shammua, Shobab and Nathan before Solomon without naming a mother (2 Samuel 5:14); 3:5 names one for all four. Neither book comments on the difference, and it is left here as they give it.
