1 Chronicles 10 · a question people ask
The chapter says "all his house died together" (10:6). Then how does Saul's line go on in chapters 8 and 9?
Here are the verses, as each has it. "So Saul died with his three sons; and all his house died together" (10:6). The two lists just before this chapter name four sons of Saul, "Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Eshbaal" (8:33, 9:39), and carry the line on through Jonathan: "The son of Jonathan was Merib-baal. Merib-baal became the father of Micah" (9:40), down to "Azel had six sons" (9:44). The three sons who die in 10:2 are Jonathan, Abinadab and Malchishua; Eshbaal isn't named in this chapter. 1 Samuel 31, telling the same day, says, "So Saul died with his three sons, his armor bearer, and all his men that same day together" (1 Samuel 31:6). 1 Chronicles doesn't explain how 10:6 and its own lists fit together, and this answer doesn't go past them.
